Vanessa O'Neill

Vanessa O'Neill is a performer, writer, director and teacher, and currently the Youth and Education manager at Malthouse Theatre. She trained as an actor at the Ecole Philippe Gaulier and at the Drama Centre in London.

Vanessa has worked for a range of theatre companies throughout the UK and Australia. From 2001 - 2004 she toured her one-woman-show Happy With Half Your Life with the assistance of The Australia Council for the Arts. In 2013, Vanessa was chosen to take part in the International Actors' Fellowship at Shakespeare's Globe. Her play In Search of Owen Roe had seasons at La Mama Theatre in 2015 and 2016 and toured with Regional Arts Victoria. It was published by Currency Press and selected for the VCE Drama Playlist in 2016. Vanessa has recently been awarded the Joyce Thorpe Nicholson Fellowship by the University of Melbourne to research and write a new play based on the Germaine Greer Archives.


IN RESIDENCE 2018

The research, writing and creative development of new solo piece of theatre based upon the Germaine Greer Archives (recently acquired by the University of Melbourne).This project will explore the impact of Germaine Greer's work over the last five decades. It will investigate Greer in her many and varied roles: as academic, feminist, performer, writer, journalist, lecturer, libertarian, comedian, environmentalist and provocateur.
