Read MoreThe House that Dan Built is a not-for-profit charity and female-focussed arts organisation, dedicated to raising girls’ voices and advancing women’s careers. The House was founded in 2015 by Artistic Director Danielle O’Keefe. Our mission supports girls and women to find their voice, be heard, connect and share joy. We create contemporary vocal works that challenge audiences to engage with topics important to girls and women.
The House is a platform for uplifting the voices of those with a connection to, or who find safety in feminine artistic spaces. We work with all ages, from teaching songwriting in The Toy Choir, for girls ages 8-16, to our professional projects with wide ranging demographics.
Femina Controllata Machina is a new project that went into its second creative development at Bundanon. This work is an electronic opera exploring the possibilities, fears and potential threats surrounding the emerging epoch of artificial intelligence, deep-fake technology and the potentially omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent algorithms of global social-media and technology companies. Six emerging artists collaborated with Donna Hewitt and Danielle O’Keefe to build skills, interrogate a concept, and create a contrasting vocal work that harnesses the creative possibilities of emerging-technologies.
