Read MoreWe are a team of two Indigenous writers (Anthony McKnight and Catherine Moyle) and four non-Indigenous writers (Catherine McKinnon, Joshua Lobb, Christine Howe and Shady Cosgrove) who have come together to learn from Country, searching with permission for stories that will sustain all life on our planet. Three questions guide our work together: how do we care for Country?; what might we learn about writing and storytelling through attending to Country?; and how might writing lead to deeper, reciprocal relationships with place? Our work is guided by the Shoalhaven River, which borders Yuin Country and travels from its source in the mountains, through forests and farmland, to the estuary at the river’s mouth and finally to Gadu, the sea.

We aim to develop a creative writing practice that listens to and learns from Country, by writing on and with Country. We are committed to developing a shared writing practice that incorporates both Indigenous and non-Indigenous writers. Through this shared practice, we hope to deepen our understanding of how our relationships with all living things can be shaped by paying attention to Country, and how this understanding can be communicated through storytelling. Spending time together at Bundanon will allow us to learn from this bend in the Shoalhaven River, observing the trees, wind, river, birds, plants and animals, the gifts they bring and the relationships between them.
