I propose to use the focused time in the landscape of Bundanon to develop a particular approach to seeing flatness and depth and applying this to my painting process.
I plan to begin by creating small drawing studies as a point of departure, or as compositional reference, for a series of large paintings. The translation from small drawing to large painting interests me as a process of mediating the expressive, painterly gesture and breaking down, or opening up, the controlled composition of the drawing. The scale of the work will also help to communicate the body’s instrumentality in mark-making.
