Philip Aspden

Art Forms: Music/Sound, Performance, Visual Art

Residency Year: 2004

Lives / Works: Sydney, Eora

Philip Aspden has developed an interactive drawing, painting program from a group of characters first appearing in his first solo exhibition in 1978 at Sydney.

These interactive programs have expanded to include performance, along with co-written songs of the characters and although designed for children they are also projected towards adults for them to role play as children. These programs, performances and workshops have been presented since that first exhibition, at many schools and institutions: The Art Gallery of New South Wales, Museum of Contemporary Art, The Maritime Museum, the State Library of New South Wales along with residencies in Mataram City, Lombok, Indonesia and schools and universities in China.

In Residence at Bundanon

A series of day workshops for students from schools in the Shoalhaven. Interactive drawing, poetry and music inspired the students to create a nocturnal creature character that lived in the surrounds of Bundanon, and emerged out at night to protect the inhabitants and the flora and fauna.
