Nithya Nagarajan is an artist and curator whose practice adopts movement as a system of inquiry into the sacred, the sensual and the decolonial. Her performance work affects sensory perceptions of the witness through a collaborative process of meaning making, underpinned by a strong feminist sensibility.
Nagarajan will be in residence at Bundanon with Samara Hersch and Wendy Yu working on their project Vishakanyas: Poison Maidens.
Vishakanyas: Poison Maidens is a radical feminist interpretation of the relatively unknown myth, Vishakanyas – The world’s OG femme fatales. Part choreography, part conversation, part confession – this relational work invites a reflection on female agency, desire, sensuality and sexuality for female Bharatanatyam dancers in India and the diaspora.
