Read MoreBased on the edges of the Central Victorian Highlands on Taungurung Country, and closely surrounded by National Park, Michelle is deeply connected with the forests that inspire her practice. Working with glass since 2008, she engages in an ethos of minimal impact with her practice through a careful consideration of material and collecting. Michelle uses recycled materials and incorporates silver-smithing, glass casting and pâte de verre techniques as she explores the ways that we exist in the world. Sometimes playful and at other times achingly serious, she wants her work to tread lightly and respectfully, while creating joy and positive connections.
Michelle is currently a Master of Research candidate at RMIT University in Naarm / Melbourne and has been selected to present her work both in Australia and Internationally, with awards for her glasswork in Venice, and her Jewellery pieces in Australia and USA.
My time spent at Bundanon will be used to immerse in the natural environs of the property and to respond to this sensory information through making. Working with a reflexive approach to the experience of being in the landscape, and through the lens of a jeweller and object maker, I will use the opportunity to fully engage with the community of elements that make this place like no other. With emphasis on temporal works, I will explore with slow and mindful actions to feel and respond, through writing, mark-making, movement and form.
