Bundanon

Colombian Australian artist Gloria Florez holds a BVA and an MFA by research from the University of Sydney, along with a BVA Honours from the National Art School Sydney.

Since graduating in 2015, Gloria has actively participated in numerous group exhibitions and residencies both nationally and internationally. Her art practice maintains a consistent focus on the intersection of science, conservation, and art, emphasising sustainability and natural phenomena. As an artist and a fellow human, Gloria endeavours to establish an ethos that connects with various communities, including traditional owners, children, artists, scientists, writers, and other academics. Her goal is to foster collective efforts in creating environmental projects aimed at promoting the thriving of our natural world. Simultaneously, Gloria seeks to celebrate our cultural diversity through her work.

In Residence at Bundanon

Residing within the lush eucalyptus forest in the Garigal Country on the Western Foreshores of Pittwater, life is immersed in the richness of biodiversity and shaped by the elements of wind, rainfall, tidal flows, and fire seasons. This environment has been the catalyst for the creation of Forest Ambassadors, an ongoing environmental and artistic community project. At Bundanon, Forest Ambassadors extend its reach, exploring the land, traversing the river, and immersing into the habitat’s soundscape. With a focus on fostering community connections and through remote collaboration with Canadian multimedia artist, Dr. Teresa Connors, and Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and Education Academic, Dr. Suzanne Plater. We will explore the complexities of land conservation, aboriginal connections and climate change.
