Believing in the strength of his people’s art Eric aims to revitalise Aboriginal language in his practice. To speak his ancestors tongue is what Eric describes as being a transformative experience – to hear the different intonations is an inspiration musically and to engage with his language is a continuance of culture.
IN RESIDENCE 2017
Eric Avery and Dalisa Pigram used their shared residency to “draw the song out across country”. Avery explored his various heritages, looking at the complexities of dislocation and connection to country and asks how can this be communicated through performance in music and movement. Working with Marrugeku’s Dalisa Pigram and responding to tasks set by Koen Augustijinen, Avery also took a look at blending various performance forms and work on techniques to communicate and carry on important messages in his (dance and violin) multidisciplinary practice.
Avery was also in residence in 2019.
