Dark Quiet is an artist collective exploring a set of principles and practices for new sound/light installations that consider their ecological impacts. Human-generated sound and light impacts heavily on all living creatures including humans. As artists working in sound/light, our awareness of these ecological impacts creates inherent tension. They embrace this tension. Dark Quiet is Jenny Hector, Madeleine Flynn and Tim Humphrey, in collaboration with the nonhuman/human ecologies of the sites we encounter, and producer Erin Milne of Bureau of Works.
Dark/Quiet is a co-commission with Bundanon and Finding Our Voice under the stewardship of Artistic Director Genevieve Lacey, premiering in late 2022. This residency at Bundanon is their first detailed investigation of the site towards the realisation of Dark/Quiet – The Hide- a nocturnal device that hones our attention to the sound and sight of the surrounds. During their visit in February they will consult with site experts and learn as much about the life of the site as they can.
