Shane Simpson AM

Chairman

One of Australia’s most highly regarded intellectual property and entertainment lawyers, Mr Simpson was founder of the Arts Law Centre of Australia and has been the Chairman of the NSW Film and Television Office (Screen NSW); Museums NSW and Museums and Galleries NSW. He is currently Chairman of the Song Company and the Peggy Glanville-Hicks Composers’ Trust; a councillor of the National Maritime Museum and the Australian National Academy of Music; and a trustee of the Freedman Foundation and the Aboriginal Benefits Foundation.

Mr Simpson was originally appointed to the Board in January 2011.

Tony Emery

Board Member

Mr Tony Emery is a Managing Director of Soilco. He received the 2007 Award for Leadership on recycled organics from his industry peers. Tony is currently an executive member of the Shoalhaven Business Chamber and is currently a Director of the Australian Organic Recycling Association and Chair of the NSW Branch.

Mr Emery was originally appointed to the Board in January 2009.

Professor Paul Wellings CBE

Board Member

Professor Paul Wellings joined the University of Wollongong as Vice-Chancellor in January 2012. Prior to his current role, Professor Wellings held the position of Vice-Chancellor of Lancaster University from 2002-2011.

He has extensive board experience as a Director of the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO), the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), and the Cumbrian Rural Regeneration Company. He is currently a board member the University of Wollongong, Dubai, a Trustee of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS), China, and a Director of the Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute (IHMRI).

Professor Wellings was appointed Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2012 Queen’s Birthday Honours list for services to higher education. He received an Honorary DSc from Lancaster University in 2014

Anne Flanagan

Board Member

Anne is the Deputy Director of the Art Gallery for New South Wales. Her academic background includes visual arts, interior design and education. For more than two decades she has worked in arts organisations, including the Crafts Council of NSW, Powerhouse Museum, Biennale of Sydney, Australian Bicentennial Authority and Historic Houses Trust of NSW.

Mani Thiru

Board Member

Mani is the Senior Director, Strategic Partnerships at MARKETO She has over 15 years of Business and Technology Transformation experience with blue chip clients across Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand in the Telco, Financial Services, Tech, Education and Retail sector.

Her expertise is in leading cross-disciplinary transformation projects around Digital and Digital Customer Experience to deliver tangible returns in the Sales, Marketing and Service.An adherent of Human Centred Design,

Mani’s core competencies include:Digital Transformation Expertise, Customer Experience Design, Innovation workshops, Hackathons, Social CRM, Mobile, Apps, Gamification, The Internet of Things.

Mani holds a post-grad in Business & IT from the Auckland University of Technology and International Management from Stanford University, USA.

Helen Bauer

Board Member

Helen Bauer held chief executive roles in the NSW Public Sector, then established an independent management consulting practice specialising in workplace management. In retirement Ms Bauer provides pro bono services to high performing young professionals. In 1998 Ms Bauer was invited to membership of Chief Executive Women Inc. In 2000 she was appointed a National Fellow of the Institute of Public Administration in recognition of her outstanding contribution to public administration. In 2003 she was awarded an Australian Centenary Medal for her contribution to business and the community. In 2015 she was appointed to the inaugural board of the City Recital Hall.

Jennifer Bott

Board Member

Jennifer Bott AO is a director, consultant and professional mentor focussing mainly in the arts, leadership, education and philanthropy.

She is Chair of the National Institute of Dramatic Art, a Trustee of the Australian Museum and a Director of the Sydney Orthopaedic Research Institute. She consults in innovation and development to the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House and a range of other arts organisations.

Jennifer is a member of Chief Executive Women, a former CEO of the Australia Council for the Arts, the Canberra Writers Festival, former CEO of the University of New South Wales Foundation and has served in senior management and board roles at Opera Australia, Musica Viva Australia and the National Portrait Gallery.

James Ostroburski

Board Member

James Ostroburski is a Director of Grimsey Wealth, a financial advisory and wealth management firm based in Melbourne. He previously held senior roles with Investec Bank (Aust) Limited & Credit Union Australia.

James is a member of Philanthropy Australia’s New Generation of Giving program; a group of influential Australian’s seeking to develop and grow a community of philanthropists under the age of 40. James is also Co-Chair of the Nexus Global Youth Summit (Australia), a global movement that seeks to advance the potential of next generation leadership across nations & sectors as well as to bridge communities of wealth and social entrepreneurship for dialogue, education and collaborative problem solving.

James is Chairman of Dancehouse Incorporated, a Governor of the Arts Centre Melbourne Foundation, a member of the Australian Chamber Orchestra's Development Council, Director of Giving Productions and Chairman of the Ostroburski Family Fund.

Mark Tucker

Board Member

Mark is a former Deputy Secretary in the Australian Public Service, with more than 25 years experience working in the Departments of Agriculture, Environment and Heritage, Arts and Sport and Prime Minister and Cabinet. His early career was as a research scientist including appointment to the 1982 Australian National Antarctic Research Expedition. Mark has been a member of the Board of the National Portrait Gallery, the Advisory Council to Old Parliament House and the Board for the Centre for Australian National Biodiversity Research.

Merran Dawson

Independant Chair - Risk and Audit Committee

Merran is a Partner of Price Waterhouse Cooper, specialising in the risk and controls practice in operational risk services predominantly to the financial services sector.

Deborah Ely

Chief Executive Officer

Prior to taking up her position as CEO at Bundanon Trust in 2006 Deborah Ely was the Visual Arts and Craft Manager at Arts New South Wales. Previous positions include Director of the Australian Centre for Photography in Sydney; founding Director of the Centre for Contemporary Photography in Melbourne; Co-ordinator of the first Experimenta festival of new media in Australia and Visual Arts Director of Watershed Media Centre in the UK. She was trained in Britain as a painter and art historian and is a Professorial Fellow at the University of Wollongong.

Richard Montgomery

Chief Operating Officer

Richard Montgomery has over 30 years experience working in the cultural sector. Previous roles include Head of Operations for Bell Shakespeare (2010), Operations Manager for Carriageworks (2006-2008), Event Operations Manager at the Sydney Opera House (2004-2006). In 2001 he was awarded the Australian Centenary Medal for his contributions to the Centenary of Federation civic celebrations. He joined Bundanon Trust in 2009.

John Baylis

Chief Programs Officer

John Baylis has worked in theatre as performer, dramaturg, producer and director. He was a founding member of the Sydney Front (1986-1992) and Artistic Director of Urban Theatre Projects (1997-2001). He was Director of Theatre at the Australia Council (2001-2009), and more recently was Senior Producer with Performing Lines (2009-11) and Executive Producer of Stalker Theatre (2011-14). He joined Bundanon Trust in 2014.

Atul Joshi

Corporate Services Manager

Atul was most recently General Manager with Playwriting Australia. Previous positions include Director of Key Organisations at the Australia Council and General Manager of the State Theatre Company of South Australia, Griffin Theatre Company and the State Opera Company of South Australia. He has an MBA from UNSW and started his career as a classical musician working with Sydney Symphony, Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestras and the ABC Sinfonia.
