During their residency at the Bundanon, artists Andrew Burrell and Katherine Olston developed the collaborative project Nocturne. Nocturne explores notions of personal (internal) fears and anxieties projected onto a larger external space. The central focus of the project involves Burrell and Olston working with the Australian landscape, and in particular, the Australian “Bush” as both an environment to be explored and a construct of the “colonial other”. The project explores the artists’s concept of Australian Bush, as a site ‘often been seen and portrayed (by this colonizing other) as a mysterious place, often dangerous and usually to be feared.
