Read MoreMadiha Sikander’s work results from accumulating little knick knacks from here and there. From newspaper images and photographs to little finds from flea markets, her work is usually associated to found objects. A large body of her work is primarily associated to books. She is fascinated with the concept of reality and illusions of reality- both technically and conceptually. As a result, the work is built of complex layers which address the past, the present, the social, political and personal.
During this residency Sikander worked on a series of works Pockets Full of Poses. The body of work studies the various influences on the post colonial Pakistani society- a society which is influened not just by its colonial history, but also by Western, Indian, Islamic/Arabic way of life. Children as social agents is a subject which is also of great interest to the artist, in persuit of which the Sikander has conducted several work shops in various politically troubled areas of her city. The desire to understand and discourse the difference of realities and persectives serves as a catalyst to Sikanders work and she hoped to be able to share and absorb from the various people from other walks of life she encounters during her residency.
