Art Form: Visual Art

Residency Year: 2025

As a queer artist, I make work which honours the stories, histories and community of LGBTQIA+ people. My intention is to produce work that is celebratory and which communicates the exhilaration and joy of community.

My most recent project was a commissioned public work consisting of 12 large format banners which celebrate the history of disco. Born from the vibrant nightlife of 1970s urban America, disco became a sanctuary for the gay community around the world, offering an inclusive space for expression and liberation. Its exuberance and defiance mirrors the gay community’s struggle for acceptance and equality, transforming the dance floor into a powerful arena of identity, joy and resistance.

I use my work to honour the queer kid I never allowed myself to be. Finally he gets to play with sequins, jewellery and all the sparkly things. And secondly, to pay tribute to queer elders and share stories of those people who chose difficult, challenging paths through life but did so with grace and bravery.

IN RESIDENCE AT BUNDANON

I will be using my time at Bundanon to research and begin my next project. My work is very labour intensive and requires space, a lack of distraction and lots of time – all of which are in short supply in my Sydney studio. The quiet of Bundanon and the opportunity to step outside of my Sydney bubble for an extended period are an incredible gift within which I can be endlessly productive. I cannot wait for some space to just think and make, uninterrupted.
