Melinda Giblett works across painting and drawing disciplines to examine both grand and intimate narratives of the Australian landscape. Inviting a sense of curiosity, valuing place and engaging audiences with stories is central to her practice. Giblett presents a contemporary reading of place via the dynamic use of colour, contrasting light and textural layered brushwork that ultimately seeks to preserve the importance and delicacy of the landscape.
Giblett will use her residency to develop conceptual interests in stewardship and land renewal. The restoration of the Shoalhaven River riparian vegetation habitat will be a focal point for the work where she plans to create a rich visual response to the emerging revitalised landscape. Research will encompass an investigation of the collection where Giblett will respond to a range of viewpoints about place that have emerged over time.
