Adam Norton grew up in Lagos, Nigeria and Nairobi, Kenya. In 1984 Norton was awarded a BfA from The Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art, Oxford University.

Adam Norton’s immersive installation ‘My Trip to Mars’, was included in the 3rd Biennale of Daejeon, Korea. He has exhibited widely in Australia including at Tarra Warra Museum of Art, Victoria, Carriageworks, Sydney and the National Museum of Australia, Canberra. He has been a finalist in a number of art prizes including The Archibald Prize, The Doug Moran Prize and The Blake Prize. His work has been shown in the UK, The Netherlands and California and he has won a number of overseas art residencies in the US and Europe.

Norton has twice been commissioned by the City of Sydney to present temporary public art in the CBD and has recently won a commission for Sydney Metro.

In residence at Bundanon

In 2021 Norton visited the isolated Wolfe Creek Meteor crater site in WA. He made a photographic survey of the entire rim of the crater and plans to do a series of works on paper based on this visit. He will incorporate his experiences with those at other crater sites from around the world. Craters have always held a huge fascination for him and he has visited quite a number over his life, from Meteor Crater in Arizona and Krakatoa volcano off the coast of Java and also the atomic craters at Maralinga, in South Australia.
