Rhiannon Newton is an Australian dancer and choreographer who grew up on Dunghutti land in regional NSW. Her creative work draws attention to ecofeminist ways of understanding interdependence between bodies and the world. Newton currently works from Gadigal land (Sydney) where she contributes to community and culture through creation, performance, collaboration, teaching, research and producing.
Newton will be in residence in 2021 with film-maker, artist and teacher Miška Mandić. During their residency together, they will be exploring how their respective practices in film and choreography support new approaches to thinking in longer durations. How do we perceive the implications of our actions in the present on the scale of hundreds, thousands, even millions of years? Both artist’s practices deal with temporality in response to the contemporary environmental crisis and in this residency they observe and experiment with their disciplinary specific knowledge in relation to this zone of shared concern.
