Standing There Productions (principally Lorin Clarke, Stewart Thorn and Rita Walsh) has existed in some form or other in Melbourne since 2003. During that time they've produced three successful stage plays People Watching (awarded second prize in the International Student Playwright Competition in 2004), For We Are Young And Free (nominated for a Golden Gibbo Award in the 2007 Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and Greatness Thrust Upon Them, which appeared as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2008.
Standing There also produced the short film I Could Be Anybody and the occasional video (including The Receptionist). The company previously enjoyed an artists' residency at Bundanon in 2008, which helped form and develop several of their ongoing projects including a television series currently in development.
The Standing There website regularly reports project updates via Lorin's Diary and includes news on Stewart, Rita and Lorin's individual projects including Rita's recent work with producer Jan Chapman, Stewart's award-winning music video clip, and Lorin's article on Australian theatre in this month's Meanjin.
Standing There Productions can't wait for their Bundanon residency in August 2010. They've already packed their gumboots.
