About the Bundanon Brangus herd

The Bundanon Brangus herd was established in 1997, purchasing foundation females from the Varunaco and Bimbadeen (PI) herds located in south-eastern Australia. The Bundanon herd is selected strictly for fertility, temperament and structure, calving all heifers at two years of age, and culling animals that don't or can't rear a marketable calf.

The Bundanon herd is run in the picturesque Shoalhaven valley 20 kms west of Nowra, on the property made famous by one of Australia’s most prolific artists of the modern day, Arthur Boyd. The Bundanon herd is owned and managed by the Bundanon Trust. Our Brangus cattle are bred at a stabilised blood percentage of 3/8 Brahman and 5/8 Angus. This blood percentage and along with using generation bred Brangus allows us to breed consistent black polled cattle with uniformity throughout the calf drop.

Commercial Herd - Bundanon also runs a commercial herd based on Brangus/Angus/ Black Simmental three way cross. Although only in its infancy, this program will combine the genetics of the three breeds to produce quality vealer calves.

Brangus Group Breedplan

Bundanon has been a user of the Brangus Group Breedplan since 2002. We use performance figures as one of many factors in selecting breeding stock. It is essential information that is provided to our clients to help in the purchasing of cattle.

Bundanon scans all animals 18 months of age for eye muscle, rib and rump fat and also intramuscular fat. All scan data is submitted to the Brangus Group breedplan and analysed appropriately. We use this information from our scanning as a guide for selection and also a guide for our buyers.
